An exclusive collection* of exquisite handmade artisanal stoneware shaped individually by hand from the village of Longpi in Manipur.
About Longpi Stoneware:
Sourced from traditional artisans in Manipur. These Jugs are made from weathered rock and serpentinite, a mineral found only in the village of Longpi in Manipur. Unlike other kinds of pottery, Longpi is not shaped on the potter’s wheel.
The special rocks are crushed and mixed with water to form clay and then kneaded and flattened on a wooden board. All the shaping is done with the hand. Once the clay has dried, it is placed in the fire for baking for nearly seven hours where it cooks at 900 degrees. The pieces are then taken out and rubbed with a leaf known as ‘machee’ (Pasania Pachyphylla) that gives it its texture and finish.
